The Realm Online is one of the oldest MMORPGs in the industry. In fact, the game is nearly 10 years old as it began operating on December 31, 1996. Despite being one of the first MMORPGs, however, the game is largely unknown. When people think of the pioneers of the industry, they think of games like Ultima Online, Meridian 59, and even EverQuest. Why has the game not received more attention? For starters, many gamers feel that the Realm Online is a graphical MUD similar to Rubies of Eventide instead of being a full-blown MMO with all the fancy trimmings. Secondly, the game continues to operate with a middle-of-the-road pricing policy. Instead of attracting more players by going free like many other MMOs these days, The Realm requires a monthly fee that is about half of what major MMOs charge. That said, however, there are few MMOs that are easy to pick up and start playing as The Realm Online. In addition, everybody plays on the same server so the game has a very strong community.
