前半雖然有著仿作身上總能見到的，和爵士作品並不太相應的現代推理小說味，有些空洞，但至少也有些新意。後半爵士之子就只會整天重複其父作品的所有知名情節，敷衍味格外突出，很多地方連對白都一模一樣，生怕讀者認不出這正宗的正典味道。
小说评价：想必两位作者都对道尔爵士的了解远超常人。作为老福的仿作短篇集而言，质量尚可，部分地方有点正典味道，但整体而言并没有感觉体现出其精髓之处。
