這是全文的連結,本論(英文)目的在於重新正面評價本作,並且考據其對井伏文學的引用。以下為引文:

Of course, a novel without a proper “story” is not a novel that only depicts the irrelevant things around oneself, it means the novel that is closest to a poem among all types of novels. Compared to prose verse, this is closer to the novel. Let me restate for the third time, I don’t think a novel without a proper “story” is the best novel. However, from the perspective of purity and without popular taste, it is the purest novel.      Akutagawa Ryūnosuke

When Akutagawa is saying this, he is replying to the claim from Tanizaki Jun'ichirō that the novel must contain the so-called “structural beauty”. He doesn’t think the structure is unnecessary, not to mention that he is actually known for searching aesthetics in literature himself. However, he wants to point out the value of the literature without “structural beauty”. Basically, the 9-volume Yuri (not linking to GL) series A Tropical Fish Yearns for Snow (熱帯魚は雪に焦がれる) from Hagino Makoto we are going to discuss today is such type of fictional work. Using literature as metaphors like Liz and the Blue Bird, the story is about two girls with different types of loneliness, Konatsu, and Koyuki.
Their encounter seems random but turns out that both sides think it is meaningful. “It would be great if I could become a frog”, showing the will to always stay by her side with the metaphor of literature, Konatsu becomes Koyuki’s irreplaceable person by continuing to support her and accepting every side of her. As for herself, her feeling behind the metaphor of literature finally reached Koyuki in the finale. Only Koyuki can fill in Konatsu’s loneliness, while Konatsu allows Koyuki to be herself. So, they won’t feel lonely anymore after the promise of always being the “frog” (irreplaceable companion) for each other, and also the mental support of knowing that “Don’t forget. Always, somewhere, someone is here for you. As long as you remember her, you are not alone”. Such is how the story ends.
Aside from the event of the wronged author receiving attacks for claiming her own thoughts about the series, there are quite diverged comments about the story of the series. Just like how Akutagawa didn’t deny the claim from his opponent and friend Tanizaki, we are not here to say the aesthetic standard used to criticize Hagino Makoto shouldn’t exist, but we have to point out the aesthetic standard in this series and the value of it. As an opening of the article and the general discourse of the story, we will deal with the aesthetic standard first......(詳情請見連結
