Coulson's compulsion to carve increases, and he is no longer able to sleep. When a former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent and a patient of Project T.A.H.I.T.I. is killed and her body carved with the symbols, Coulson goes back to the memory machine to find other patients who were injected with GH–325. He locks Skye in the holding cell and goes after the remaining members, trying to find an end to the madness. It turns out the writing is actually a 3D diagram of a city, a city that the alien host used to make GH–325 apparently wished to find. Seeing the completed design ends Coulson's need to carve, but since Hydra is also searching for the city, he makes it a priority for S.H.I.E.L.D. to find its location first. Meanwhile, the other members of the team try to capture Ward, who also betrays Hydra by capturing Bakshi and leaving him for S.H.I.E.L.D., before preparing to meet his brother.
